Planet Kubb talk:Winter 2013 Cleanup - Planet Kubb Wiki

Winter 2013 Cleanup is a project that Jamie is working on to sigificantly refactor how data about teams, events, games are related. Also an entirely new concept of a match is being added, along with a backfill of (hopefully) several tournament brackets to develop a longer term view of teams. Pretty much all templates in the wiki will be touched as part of this effort.

This project should be done by the end of February 2013. Team Templates Step 1
Template:Team now is much smarter and ties a bunch of additional information in, including relating Category:Match a Category:Game. The roster section is now the only way to add a Category:Player to a team. Players no longer have a field for picking a team. This is a win since it naturally allows players to be on multiple teams which is very common. Also the Team contact information has been removed since that is just the player on the roster than is flagged with Property:Is team captain. Jamie (blog | hello) 13:29, 6 February 2013 (UTC)
Namespaces
New namespaces were added to the wiki for Game, Event and Club recently. Existing pages of those types have been moved into those namespaces. These join the Team and Player namespaces so we now have each major data type in the wiki sectioned off. You can have too many namespaces, but this seemed appropriate for me given the quantity of pages that will be in each. Jamie (blog | hello) 13:31, 6 February 2013 (UTC)
Object Relationships
This diagram is helpful as you navigate the relationships between various objects in the Planet Kubb wiki.

Teams from multiple places
Form:Team and Template:Team have been updated to allow a team to have multiple locations. Just separate them with a semicolon ;. Both locations are stored separately so the team truly is attached to both locations. Jamie (blog | hello) 21:48, 6 February 2013 (UTC)
Uploading and Tagging Photos
Super cool Upload and Tag capabilities added today. Hoping to get a lot of photos! Jamie (blog | hello) 03:25, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
Too many changes to list
The last few days have been a whirlwind with a ton of changes, and a lot of data being entered. Too much to list out. Jamie (blog | hello) 14:32, 10 February 2013 (UTC)
629 Matches!
In the last few days 629 matches have been added to the Planet Kubb Wiki! As Eric Anderson says, Holy wow!! Jamie (blog | hello) 01:17, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
Events now have Series
I was struggling with how to make connections between events, like each years of the US National Kubb Championship should be a single click from each other. It finally hit on me that the answer was to allow events to be assigned a series, this is set to Property:Has series. The series itself is a wiki page, because I think a series of tournaments deserves a page describing the tournament and giving it's history. We should add the series to all tournaments that should have them, and fill out a history page on the tournament (which will be a clickable red link after being added to an event). NewUserMessage Configured Right
I finally got the NewUserMessage extension configured right. It will now put Template:Welcome on the talk page for all new users that signup. Yeah! Feel free to tweak the content of that template. The template is substituted onto the talk page. Jamie (blog | hello) 03:28, 12 February 2013 (UTC)
Detect Duplicate Matches
I just added some logic to Template:Match that will attempt to find duplicate matches. You can see the diff for the details. It looks for any other matches that have the same two teams, at the same event, in the same bracket. If there is another match like that it will flag it by putting it in Category:Duplicate match. Team TrueSkill Values updated
I reran the team skill calculator this morning. Since it's new, I thought I would capture the before and after values just to see what happened.
